Hi Medium I’m back

For the past few months, I didn’t post anything at all, and not that I didn’t write anything, but I always felt something was missing, so I wouldn’t post it.

And since Jan is the month of self-reflection and the world-known month for new year's resolutions, I decided to just write and post. Mistakes, grammar, typos and all.

Without further ado, here’s a thought I have been entertaining a lot lately, and I wonder if anyone feels the same.

A book will stay on your shelf until someone asks you to borrow it, and that is when you suddenly treasure it. A person will be neglected by you until they decide to move on, and that's when they’re all you can think about. Everything in life is x10 more valuable when we are about to lose it.

As someone in their mid-20s, I look back a lot to my late teens and early twenties, and I value soo many of the things that I didn’t really think twice about at the time. I look at my body, my hair, my friends, my nativity, and my appetite for life and I miss it, a lot.

So with 2023, I am testing this theory and taking it to the next level so it’d serve me instead of just filling me with sadness and regrets. I can’t try that with emotions at the moment as I am heading more towards stability in my emotions (finally), so I don’t want to stir a recently calm stormy sea.

Therefore, I am trying this with books first. I have a long list of books in my library and an even longer to-read list on my phone. To create that “about to lose it” feeling, I am donating/selling a book exactly 30 days after starting it. Harsh rules, no exceptions.

My hypothesis is that the FOMO in me will urge me to read the book before I lose it forever. It’ll also urge me to read it intentionally with a present mind knowing that I won’t have the book to refer back to again. All I have with this book is 30 days. Like a 30 days/night stands. Loved it or hated it; all I have is 30 days.

I have a small bookstore Instagram page ( @Glitched_UK — Glitched.com.co). If you want to share that experience with me and test this theory, message me there, and we can check on each other's progress. You can also try this on your own and share the results with me. I’d be delighted to hear about it.

The first book I am starting with is a book by Maggie Shipstead called GREAT CIRCLE. I had it on my shelf for about 10 months now, and it’s time.

P.S. the timeline doesn’t have to be 30 days, could be more, could be less. But I’ll advise you not to be toooo generous with time, as that's why we are here in the first place.
